Eliminating Bed Bugs, Creating Peace of Mind

Bed Bugs at Atlantic City Senior Housing Complex

Senior Housing Complex in Atlantic City, NJ Experiences a Bed Bug Infestation!

According to NBC40, the bed bug problems at the Atlantic City senior housing complex apartments brought about thousands and thousands of bed bugs in just one apartment. Bed bugs in other Atlantic City senior housing apartments were also found. According to the news article, they attempted the steam heat method and all of the individuals living there had throw away all of their furniture and memories. We are not sure if that worked 100% but I do think the heat treatment method would’ve been more of the best solution for them to use.

Local residents at a senior housing complex in Atlantic City are up in arms about a recent infestation of bed bugs in their apartments.

Viola Craig is 85 years old, legally blind and immobile. She received a letter in the mail from management at Community Haven on December 11th saying they spotted one bed bug in her apartment. But when her daughter came to help move the furniture out of her apartment, she said it was a nightmare.

“Only to find out the horror that there were thousands upon thousands of these lovely bugs in her apartment. We threw everything away in her apartment. We’re talking bed, clothing, suit cases, shoes whatever because it was so horrifying,” said Georgina Lee, daughter of Viola Craig.

But that’s not all Lee saw after entering her mother’s apartment back in early December.

“In addition, mouse droppings. I mean by the thousands to where I move the sofa and there were so many under there,” said Lee.

Lee says she reached out to management from Community Haven and Code Enforcement, but says they have failed to address the problem.

“Management seeming to be ignoring the problem and just doing enough to get by and we’re not going to stand for that. And I would like our Code Enforcement to put their foot down. Obviously if they think they’re doing enough, they’re not doing enough. The problem is still happening over and over again and it’s not right,” said Councilman Marty Small.

Lee says she was tired of being ignored and therefore went to Wednesday night’s city council meeting for answers. And the members of the council say they are going to do what they can to fix this problem.

“Steam heating the whole building and all the residents have to evacuate. Let’s put them in hotels, let’s get them reimbursed for their furniture and let the management pay for it because it’s unacceptable,” said Small.

“If you went to my apartment now, I think I have one table and chair that you can sit on. I have to start all over, 85 years of age. At my age all we have left are memories. The memories are all gone. Now they’re in the dumpster.”

NBC 40 reached out to management from Community Haven but they were unavailable for comment. However, at tonight’s council meeting, the Business Administrator ordered Code Enforcement and city officials to meet at the housing complex at 9:30 tomorrow morning to further examine this issue.
