Shanghaiist News Report:

Beijing health officials have confirmed that a passenger on a Beijing-Shanghai bullet train was bitten by blood-sucking bedbugs that had infested the cabin. This comes as dire news to anyone who hoped that icky bug problems were only the bane of Shanghai residents and/or cockroach farm employees. Beijing-Shanghai Bullet Train Bed Bugs

The passenger posted pictures and videos online after waking up to numerous itchy bites on his body.

On his Weibo account, the passenger wrote, “”I found seven or eight bloodsucking bed bugs. I killed them and they bled a lot.”

Bedbugs are parasitic pests that feed on blood, usually without being detected, as they are active at night and stay near or inside beds and bedding.

Bed bug bites can cause a number of adverse health effects that include skin rashes and allergic symptoms, and sometimes can cause anemia and insomnia.

Bedbugs were nearly eradicated from urban areas in the 1950s and 1960s but have experienced a resurgence possibly due to human migration from the countryside.
